“Mega Service”

Examensausstellung, Kunstakademie Münster, 2026

The project “Mega Service” explores Sicily as a tourist destination. Its starting point is an aesthetic of fast service: fleeting, functional, often improvised. This aesthetic becomes visible in fragments of infrastructure that speak of overestimation, stagnation and unfulfilled promises of the future. Here, tourism does not appear as an idyllic promise, but as a structure that sustainably shapes spaces and perceptions.

The photographs are complemented by video and sound works. Moving images, displayed in a flip phone case, take up photographic motifs and shift them into a different temporal state. In conjunction with sound elements played through a moped installation, an atmospheric layer emerges that allows the exhibition space to be experienced as a permeable, dynamic place.

“Mega Service” connects individual motifs into a new context of meaning and is conceived as a spatial work exploring service, expectation, and the ambivalence of tourist infrastructures.

The series originated from a travel grant and was developed between 2019 and 2024. The photo book of the same name, presented in the context of the exhibition, constitutes my thesis project.
